The Centennial Monument. – February 2022

This is the Centennial Monument in Centennial Square. This yellow monument sits in the middle of downtown Cape Palmas. It was commissioned by the local government in 1957 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Maryland in Africa joining Liberia.

Written on this monument are the key personalities in government (Presidents, Vice Presidents, Superintendents, and Lawmakers) that originated from Maryland County.

The Centennial Square also had the first merry-go-round in Maryland County.

It was a park where families relaxed on weekends and holidays.
