Cape Palmas’s most famous landmark: The Unification Monument was built where the first Americo-Liberians arrived in 1834 on the Ann ship. My ancestor, my grandmother’s grandfather – General Anthony Wood – was a pioneer on that journey. He worked along with the Maryland Colonization Society in the USA to make freedom a reality for ex-slaves in Maryland, Liberia.
